The Flip Side

By Mike G.

Lest you think that there are not supporters of the proposed Fire Levy here in DuPont, here are a couple video clips giving their point of view.

I have also added both the supporters and the detractors weblinks until after the final tally is published, some time in late April.

Look for more video this week on RealDuPont, including clips from the “missing” February 2009 meeting!

  1. DuPont Resident says:

Please make an inform decision when voting for this levy. I will be there in April 6th. DuPont said NO already to the Levy. Why again? Why so soon? We need to look for different course of actions. What if we say NO again? Will we be voting on this ever few months for pretty much the same thing until we say YES? Disgusting!

  2. Wiseblood says:

These are both city insiders. A former councilwoman and the wife of a current councilman.

  3. Palisade Res says:

I hope we don’t see Lakewood firefighters on the streets of DuPont again holding pro-levy signs. They have no right to be here doing that unless they Live here and pay property taxes. We citizens are making cuts in our house hold budgets. Has council done this? No. They gave everyone raises.

  4. Stinger says:

Linda Cumberbatch wants us to attend a town hall meeting for the fire issue now? Give me a break! What new information can possibly be provided that wasn’t flogged to death at the OTHER town hall meetings? It is all the same crap covered over and over again. Do you think the city will have some new revelation? NOTHING HAS CHANGED SINCE NOVEMBER!

  5. Common Sense says:

Reading through the blogs, there are several citizens stating concerns, not only with the trustworthiness of the Mayor and the City Council, but also with legalities surrounding the past Fire Levy proposal. Did the City, in person of the Mayor and City Council, engage in a negligent, or even willful attempt to violate the Law?
Some are uncomfortable with alleged ‘pillow talk’ going on between the Mayor and her fire department employed spouse. Is it possible to act in the public interest, or could self-interest potentially conflict the Mayor’s judgment, where personal financial consequences are possible?
If citizens are being asked to depart with a portion of what they own to protect what they have, should not doubts of this nature be addressed and resolved before revisiting the same issues?
Is it responsible for the Mayor and City Council to ignore the voice of the voters, with an attempt to breath life into a fire levy ballot, which was defeated four months ago?
Why has the opposition campaign, if they believe a shred of this rhetoric to be true, not greeted the April ballot with a recall initiative?
A recall election is a procedure by which voters can remove an elected official from office.

  6. Wiseblood says:

On April 6th ask for the data that shows that the reason the last levy failed was solely based on the ballot amount.

    These elections cost money.

  7. Roger Bacon says:

The only people speaking in favor of the levy are from within the inner circle of the City Council Leadership.

Linda Cumberbach is “Commending” the council? For what? What did they do that warrants commendation? They are pursuing the same failed levy plan from 3 months ago. The Council is not doing anything, the Mayor is calling the shots on what will happen, the Council has no voice in the matter. Linda should know that, she was a part of the system for years. Maybe she likes to grandstand as some superior being in town who gives out commendations on TV.

Mrs Wilcox refers to DuPont as Mayberry with Barney Fife running the fire department. Give me a break, we are paying a very high premium for a consultant fire chief! We need him to produce a fire department, not lobby for our money to grow the Lakewood fire department.

These women are a part of the problem in DuPont.

People, please review the facts and you will vote NO, the city is not following their own code that requires a combination fire dept. The don’t play by the rules, and they are leading you down a trail to $3/thousand tax hike to annex the lakewood fire department. Mayor Jenkins fooled us all getting elected to support her husband’s career. It is sickening.

We paid for a tax hike 3 years ago to improve our EMT services, the Mayor took that away this year. Why would you trust her now?

  8. D.Anthony says:

I wonder how many flower pots Linda and Mrs Wilcox purchased.

  9. Kudos for everyone! says:

i would like to commend Linda Cumberbatch for commending the city council who commend the mayor who commends the fire chief who will commend the taxpayers if they fall into their levy trap.

  10. LOLCATZ @ KUDOS says:

ROFLCOPTERS on the commend strategy. Cumberbatch pulling from her Council Training Boot Camp years.

  11. Otis Campbell says:

Did Mrs. Wilcox refer to our fire chief (or City Hall) as “BARNEY FIFE”? I do recall that her husband Larry Wilcox sees it a different way:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2jimQoEHiU&feature=channel_page

    Charming.

Who is this BARNEY FIFE you speak of Mrs Wilcox? I suppose since we are talking about fire services, it must be Chief Merritt.

The 2009 budget includes Chief Merritt’s contract salary is $113,388 a year, and that does not include his per diem the city is paying to cover his room at the Liberty Inn and meals while he resolves our fire department problems (Taxpayer dollars, endorsed by Larry Wilcox).

What is he doing to solve the problem? Recommending we merge with Lakewood and pay the Fire Union to manage our fire services. Merritt is a hired “Union Gun” brought in by the Mayor. Why do you think the Mayor got rid of Chief Jensen in a big hurry? So Merritt could spin a web around our fire department called “Annexation”. Get your check books out if you support this plan, it will cost you dearly.

Once the departure from a combination fire department is complete, The Mayor will be successful in putting the fire union in charge of our fire department.

  12. Common Sense says:

RECALL EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM…THROW EM ALL OUT

  13. Palisade Denizen says:

What ever happened to Mayor Jenkin’s priority for “community outreach”? We are all in the dark with the basis for the direction you are headed.

In the end, it makes me question the Mayor’s ability to spend our tax dollars wisely.
