Offending Trees Removed

By Mike G.

The city began the task of removing the dozens of fallen or broken trees along Center Drive between DuPont-Steilacoom Road and Sequalitchew Creek. A public works crew was on Center Drive at mid-morning and continued working through the afternoon with chain saws and a wood chipper.

No word on the cause of the fallen trees but most of the damage occurred during last month’s heavy snow fall. It is unknown if the weather, disease, or the species of tree were contribution factors.

Stumps remain of removed trees on Center Drive

No other areas appeared to suffer the same fate.

Good. Now someone is less likely to get hurt jogging or walking their dog.

  2. Chuck says:

Thank you for getting this problem addressed.

  3. Palisade Res says:

Anyone who had this kind of tree planted in their yard and didn’t get the heavy wet snow off of it would have experienced the same thing. It’s the tree. Now we know why doug firs grow so tall – they have better genes.

  5. Baba O'Reilly says:

Oh, I still see some trees that remain that could be chopped. Wait until Monday, I guess.

  6. Palisade Resident says:

I also noticed a tree down in the woods on the trail behind Haskell. It is blocking the trail.

On the trail between Chloe Clarke and Grand Junction behind historic village.

I am sure it came down to priorities as to what got addressed first after the storm. I’m sure CH would appreciate a word as to where a tree had fallen in the woods and crossed a trail. Remember, they have the smallest dept in town and the work load increases all the time as this city populatin increases and the place ages.

  9. Carlos says:

Wouldn’t it be great if the city published those priorities so everyone could see them and not jump to conclusions? I sure would like to know what was more important than clearing fallen and unstable trees that could have possibly injured a citizen (street sweeping, perhaps). As far as I know, that sidewalk on Center Drive remained open to foot traffic after the storm and before the trees were addressed.

  10. Palisade Res says:

They can publish all they want. But I’ve noticed lately that City Hall has a hard time following their own rules. They can’t even stick to the DMC they have. This too, I think, is a result of not enough staff. To many issues, not enough time to address them all. They are overworked, but not underpaid by any means.

  11. Palisade Denizen says:

    Nice to see some action.

Some things so obvious to everyone who live here(council, mayor, city workers etc etc) should not require a phone call to city hall.

This one is kinda like the leaning light post from last year.

Are they going to leave the stumps?
