  1. Carlos says:

Why was there a guy on a lawn mower?

  2. WNM says:

    Funky Town Indeed!

The guy on the riding mower is Scott from the Home Course.

  3. HELP WANTED says:

Dupont fire departments calls cost over $3500.00 each what a deal even for parades thanks city council.

  4. Sandy says:

We are new to the area and found it odd that the parade just went down a couple of back streets and ended in the middle of nowhere. Don’t get us wrong we liked the parade but with the new buildings and shops it just seems like it would be better to hold it in a more public area.

  5. SwiftParadeVeteransAgainstLinda says:

Notice the pecking order in the parade or convertables – Jenkins, Coffey, Trotter, Marin, and…Cumberbatch!

What you (the ordinary citizen) may not have known, there were not suppose to be any candidates running for office in the parade, but the Mayor allowed Cumberbatch to campaign in the parade.

So the other outside candidates running for office: Jim Hills, Jason Pierce, and Elitsa Healy, were not permitted to have a display in the parade.

But since the mayor endorses Cumberbatch, she was given preferential treatment and allowed to campaign when others were not.

    Core values?

  6. Hoffman Hell Raiser says:

If this is true, then that is crappy! Can any of the other candidates validate this please?

  7. Wiseblood says:

Perhaps it is a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ but I cannot see anything in the parade rules that prohibit this kind of thing. I don’t think anyone should be allowed to campaign during the parade. It is distasteful.

    Sandy,

I agree with you. The parade has become outdated. Time to freshen it up.

  8. The Rest of the Story says:

I know it’s not popular on this site to let the facts ruin a good story, but citizens running for public office have always been allowed to march in the parade. As an example, last year Shawn Bunney was in the parade while running for Pierce County Executive. I really wish he had won, just so we could say Executive Bunney, but I digress.

If anyone running for office was denied access to the parade, I hope they come forward with the name of the person who denied their entry.

In the meantime, this MB would better serve the community if people didn’t just make stuff up to suit thier needs.

  9. Brandon says:

    The Rest of the Story,

The value of this site is to foster discussion. Someone made a claim and then the next two posts questioned the validity of that claim. Then you ride in on your white horse to save the day offering nothing more than another anedote based on what happened in the past.

Perhaps you should try reading the Olympian, or the News Tribune and peek at the comment sections there. People say whatever they feel there too. Like it or not, it is the new media.

What is your stake in the matter? Are you affliated with the parade? Then why not state your name? You’d add the authority needed to squash such nonsense in the first place, but you’d rather be part of the problem and also make unsubstaniated statements. Are you a candidate?

Back to my point on the value on discussion here. I happen to agree with Wiseblood. I feel that the parade would be better served if NO campaigning were allowed. It is a celebration of our nation’s founding, not someone’s lame attempt to pad a resume.

    Tag, your it!

  10. RBS says:

The Rest of the Story gives too much credit to the crack pot post and not enough credit to those who openly questioned the comment by SPVAL. “If this is true…” and “…cannot see anything in the parade rules…” didn’t buy into the comment, in fact nobody has who wrote in afterward. It is interesting that you decided to take the website to task when the comments were being self policed. I would rather read an occasional dumb comment rather than hear the same old party line in Dupont. People here are smarter than you think.

  11. Palisade Denizen says:

All this political controversy from a video post?!?! Nice work real dupont!

Well, at least the Moses float drew no compliants. I think that is good news!

  12. CrazyDee says:

I agree with the new resident, Sandy, on the parade route. It should be centered around the downtown area where people can grab a snack and coffee or drink and enjoy the parade. Starting it in the Historic DuPont area is totally poor planning. I heard the route last year was so long though, the poor kids in the buggy parade nearly died before it ended. One extreme to the other, too long to too short. The parade is in a rut and seems to be unable to climb out of it.

  13. philabuster says:

You new people be aware we like are parades to be like are politicians back alley, bad taste short and sweet and it doesn’t have to made sense it never has and they never do. WELCOME!

  14. Palisade Res says:

Boy is that ever the truth!

  15. CrazyDee says:

Philabuster needs to learn some proper grammar and spelling. And “we people” must be taken with a grain of salt. There are many in DuPont who love the parade and don’t see it as in bad taste. Unless of course Philabuster sees the children of the community as part of that bad taste…and if he does, maybe he needs to move to a community where people don’t get involved but only complain. Sort of like the saying “If you aren’t part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.” If you want better of everything, get out from behind the blogs and get involved in assisting in making the changes you think need to be made.

  16. Dude123 says:

I awlyas use Mrico Sfot Wrod slpel ckehecr bfroe I psot atnynig so I dno’t aepapr dmub.

  17. philabuster says:

    Move back to Russia CrazyDee.

  18. Hoffman Hell Raiser says:

Philab, don’t mind CrazyD. Some folk here are wound up tighter than u knowz what. I enjoy ur slang – it’s provides a little humor to go along with the truth. All’s good now!

  19. CrazyDee says:

You know what Philabuster…your comment to move back to Russia shows your prejudice. Looks to me like you’re as wound up tighter than Hoffman Hell Raiser is calling me. No ethnic comment was required and I’m surprised the mediator of this site would allow an ethnic slur when the only thing I was pointing out is your use of “are” that should have been “our”. Glad to see Hoffman Hell Raiser would call me out when in reality your ethnic slur should have been his/her concern rather than my proper use of the English language. I can see prejudice is welcome here. Too bad Mike G.

  20. RBS says:

CrazyDee, I happen to agree with you about the parade even to the point of getting involved if you think you can improve it. Perhaps I am too old to understand but I cannot for the life of me see an ethnic slur. I see nonsense. Could the remark appear as demeaning as correcting grammar? Between being wound tight and grammar police is an impression of DuPont you both are giving to Sandy. Consider that.

  21. philabuster on Crazy says:

CrazyDee are you high? Get your brain meds adjusted and get a life.Crazy is not away to go through life.

  22. Palisade Denizen says:

I also can see CrazyDee’s point of view, many people here have that view of how to address our city’s growing pains.

I don’t think the comment “move back to russia” or “are you high” are prejudice, just immature comments.

It appears that PhilaB could not take the criticism, so he is lashing out and trying to make it personal.

  23. philabuster on Crazy says:

Im sorry CrazyDee I snapped you don’t have to move or change your brain meds sorry.

  24. CrazyDee says:

RBS, the need to point out someone’s nationality or ethnicity because you don’t like what they say, do or believe is a form of prejudice. Telling someone to go back to their country of origin implies that they are not welcome in this country which has a ring of intolerence. I guess in order to understand the impact of that comment you would have to be the one who has heard it and experienced the true meaning behind it. How little we think of each other in this world if we think that any kind of ethnic or nationality reference to anyone because they displeased us is an acceptable practice whether in earnest or in jest.

  25. CrazyDee says:

Philabuster, my screen name is not because I have mental issues…it’s because I have a zest for life. One of the meanings of “crazy” is “very enthusiastic”. That’s me. I love laughter and spontaneity.

  26. Palisade Res says:

All of this over a video of the DuPont July 4th Parade.
Folks, take this energy and put it to good use.

  27. Ex Military says:

I suggest the City and ROA combine OWLOM with the 4th celebration and change the parade route to land on Wilmington at Ross Plaza.

Why? Because the parade should bring people out to spend money in town, offer more options for people coming out for the day. Steilacoom has this one figured out.

Do you really think those in charge of the parade would make such a change just because of inputs from one person who signs up to volunteer? I believe I would be handed a yellow vest and asked to setup orange cones.

I do know that the parade organizers are reading this website, so now someone else can wear the yellow vest, I’d rather not do that.

  28. Exhale says:

Maybe we can end next year’s parade with a giant city-wide pillow fight. Everyone could get their aggro out and then walk away until next year.

    :)

  29. The City and ROA staff can not improve anything; only make it more and more like Tillicum. FYI The ROA (AKA L.A.)let Linda ride in the parade. Same place Linda gets everyones emails, phone numbers, and other personal intel on the citizens of DuPont.

    DuPont the New Tillicum

    Facts:
Tillicum has two I-5 on/off ramps that contect to Fort Lewis. Tillicum has water to the west, I-5 and Fort Lewis to the east and Camp Murray to the south. DuPont Ditto again… two on/off ramps to Fort Lewis, Puget Sound to the west, Fort Lewis golf to the south.

Tillicum business support Military life. IE. fast food and cleaners/tailors, etc. DuPont Ditto again… Coffee shops, fast food, etc. Try finding parking in the business part of town at lunch time.

Tillicum has no grocery store and never will. Again Ditto for DuPont

Tillicum has low income housing. Tillicum has JR. Enlisted Military personnel. DuPont has Senior Enlisted and Officers. However, most of these personnel are upside-down on their loans and can’t sell. However, orders have come in and they have to PCS. So they are trying to Rent. Can’t find renters that can cover the bills. So they are now turning to Section 8 to pay the upside-down loan. DuPont now has many Low-income.

The Tillicum/DuPont list goes on and on!!!

Time to sell and move; or time for change with the City Government & the ROA!

    The reason I Drink…
    DuPont Mayor
    DuPont City Council
    DuPont City Adminstrator
    DuPont Police Chief
    DuPont Fire Chief
    The list just keeps going…….

    FYI, I’m drinking right now.

  30. Hey I forgot to write about all the vandalism.
Tillicum has low-income and lots of vandalism.
Dupont is getting low-income and vandalism is on the rise.

If it’s not the low-income it must be all them dam Senior Citizens I see everywhere.

    I need a drink. Out

  31. I think I’m going to make a White Russian!

  32. WNM says:

If you read the 3 posts above with a Foster Brooks voice in your head, it is much more entertaining.
