DuPont WA Mayor’s Report – June 2010

By Mike G.

The mayor’s report for June 2010 was just like most others in recent history, skimpy on substance and chock full of superficial details that willfully ignore important or controversial details.

Did you know that DuPont Washington’s population number grew in the last 10 years? Fascinating. Or, that we are in negotiations for some used train parts. Phenomenal. Hey, we had people pay to walk a trail that is ordinarily free (when the city isn’t involved). Suckers! Did you know that we have a process around planning events? It’s true, and it is mentioned here.

Worried about the permitting process or the sign code or other enforcement issues? Well, then you will have to wait for the city administrator’s report. The mayor is there to make us feel good. No need to sully herself with the details of what needs to be addressed in the city, after all, there is a parade to plan!

Enjoy.

The Friday Letter has not had useful information for quite a while either.

    • Concerned says:

      What is the Friday letter?

      • Taxpayer says:

its the city administrator’s weekly wrap up of what was on his or her desk that week.

    • Seabird says:

I wonder what the cost comparison is between the amount of money taxpayers pay into the city vs. the amount of money CalPortland donates into the city. City hall seems to care greatly about protecting the permitting process, but they don’t seem to care about representing the interests of the citizens who live here and actually pay the salaries of the senior planner and city administrator, and mayor.
The sad part is, no one is thinking about the long term. Who is going to want to live here in 10 years next to a big hole in the ground and a dead marsh? Guess they could install signs that read, “here once lived a class one wetland, but we sold it to a gravel mine.”

      • Honda Tuner says:

You touched on a good point: “representing the interests of the citizens.” We do not elect the mayor or council to tell US what to do, we elect representatives to do what WE tell them to do.

  2. Hollow Bob says:

    Phenomenal leadership.

    Legislative declaration.

…The people of this state do not yield their sovereignty to the agencies which serve them. The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know. The people insist on remaining informed so that they may retain control over the instruments they have created.

    [1971 ex.s. c 250 § 1.]

    Notes:
Reviser’s note: Throughout this chapter, the phrases “this act” and “this 1971 amendatory act” have been changed to “this chapter.” “This act” [1971 ex.s. c 250] consists of this chapter, the amendment to RCW 34.04.025, and the repeal of RCW 42.32.010 and 42.32.020.

  4. Here we go again says:

CITY OF DUPONT SOP = COLOSSAL SNAFU
The Mayor, Council and City Staff run and operate DuPont using the following as their standard operating procures, Colossal SNAFU. Everything that has come to past in DuPont has been a Colossal SNAFU. DuPont SOP = COLOSSAL SNAFU!

i.e. Fire Levy = COLOSSAL SNAFU, Skate-Park = COLOSSAL SNAFU, Community Center = COLOSSAL SNAFU, Public Outreach Survey = COLOSSAL SNAFU, Protecting Sequalitchew Creek = COLOSSAL SNAFU, Sequalitchew Creek/Glacier/City of DuPont/MOU= COLOSSAL SNAFU, Sidewalk issues = COLOSSAL SNAFU, Sign Code = COLOSSAL SNAFU, Budget 2010 = COLOSSAL SNAFU,
The list goes on and on; please add to it.

Last week true to form the City of DuPont employed it’s SOP of COLOSSAL SNAFU.

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. Service Members who died while in the Military Service. Memorial Day is to honor Service Members that have given the Ultimate Sacrifice. The City of DuPont honored a Mercenary, a gun for hire, at the Memorial Day ceremony in DuPont Washington 2010. COLOSSAL SNAFU

The same day the City informed a Medal of Honor winner that they have approved a memorial for said mercenary and that it was going to be placed on the Medal of Honor winner’s honored site. COLOSSAL SNAFU

Any issue, any week the City of DuPont will employ their SOP, COLOSSAL SNAFU

    • Honda Tuner says:

If they put half the energy in addressing city concerns as they do with time wasting things like planning memorials the city would be in fine shape.

    • Concerned says:

Here we go again, What do you mean mercenary?

      • Here we go again says:

Mercenary Defined: 1. working or done for payment only; motivated by a desire for money or other gain; venal; greedy.
        2. any person who will do anything for money.

By Webster’s New World College Dictionary

        • Not a native says:

I am not sure I would characterize it as mercenary. Civilian contractor, sure. But we don’t really know the motivation. In any case, a memorial should be for those who serve in the armed forces. Period. Furthermore, a memorial in DuPont should honor those born and raised in DuPont, not those from Ohio or Texas or Virginia who are only here because they are stationed here. Every other town in America honors their locals, leave the other memorials to Fort Lewis to erect.
